Chemistry Building
Addition and Renovation
New Mexico State University
Las Cruces, New Mexico

1996

50,000 sf new construction
15,000 sf renovation

$9,300,000

This major addition is  a modern, high-tech facility incorporated into a southwest mission building, a style dominant on campus during its early years.  To reduce its mass, the addition was organized into smaller components, expressing various functions separately, and creating a protected courtyard.  The 50,000 sf addition consists of a new main entrance and gallery, a lecture hall, graduate and undergraduate labs and faculty and graduate offices.   The new lab building is connected to the existing  at the 2nd and 3rd levels.  Substantial renovation of the 1955 Chemistry Building was also included.
