90,000 sf

$7,700,000

The new Bayfield High School is the largest structure in this southern Colorado community.  It is not only important as an educational facility, but also as a symbol of growth and a rallying point for the community.  Small for a complete highschool, it contains 90,000 sf and was designed for 600 students.  In addition to regular class spaces, it contains a gymnasium with hardwood floor, retractable seating and a wrestling mezzanine; locker room facilities; a cafetorium with a stage, kitchen, and music suite; media center and shop.  There are also specialized classrooms for science, computer education, art and food health education.  The design derives from both a rigorous budget and roof forms dictated by significant snowfall at this 7,000 ft. elevation.
